Guest sentiment
A snapshot of what local diners frequently mention about this location.
"This place is my second home in Malaysia. I cant tell you how kind and generous the owner Elisa is. I venture to say ive probably been to over 50 hostels in my lifetime and never have i met such a generous and kind owner who goes so above and beyond. And a bonus for all you westerners. DRY washrooms!"
"We went to De Café twice for lunch. We had mushroom spaghetti, overnight oats and French toast, all of which were delicious and beautifully presented. The staff is also very friendly. We highly recommend this café!"
"Lovely decor and top floor beds are amazing and super spacious, probably one of my fav hostel rooms ever. Super lovely owner and nice cafe/chill area attached. Very zen vibes and in great location near to some amazing food spots."
"Had an absolutely lovely stay here! The location is great and the rooms and beds are super good too. The staff are so friendly and we joined the outing to the Ipoh night market with them, which was great! My girlfriend has celiac disease and they were super accommodating with this and made sure she could try some of the food at the market. Would definitely recommend staying here if you are visiting Ipoh!"
"We dropped by this cafe for some coffee. We used the back lane entrance which is on Market Lane. The raised wooden path was a fun way to discover this hidden cafe. The place is comfortable and has a retro vibe with brick exposed walls. Coffee was nice and strong. The avocado sourdough was tasty too. Owner was very friendly when we asked for directions. We had a nice rest from walking and enjoyed the ambience and coffee."
"I’ve been traveling for about five months now and this is definitely one of the best hostels that I’ve stayed at! The room is super clean, with comfy beds and there are lockers outside the room for your bags. The owner is also such a lovely lady, who makes sure everyone is included in every activity that is on. The hostel is also in a great location, which just adds to the overall experience. Would definitely recommend!!"
"I showed up late because of my train and they sent me video instructions on a late check in!! Total life saver. 10 minutes from the train and very close to main attractions in Ipoh (concubine lane, birch tower, etc). The bathrooms were clean and I really liked that there were no bunk beds personally. They do social events and set of firecrackers for CNY! The only downside is I wish there was an air conditioned place to chill that wasn’t in the cafe. I also wish the food was less western, but the coffee was good and croissant laminated."
"I loved staying at this hostel- I extended my stay. It's a perfect blend of social with events that they host, while also allowing space to take time for yourself and quiet. Laundry unit inside hostel, coffee and food available at the cafe below, drinking water available all the time. The staff are so welcoming and friendly! The location is unbeatable right in the heart of Old Town. I would absolutely stay here again"
